Proposal Description

The cloud project I am proposing is an annotated directory website of naval warfare history topics of the Dreadnought era onwards (Circa, 1905 onwards) covering topics primarily centred around the material history of naval warfare, for example, the ships, weapons, armour, and technologies associated with naval warfare, but will also link to surface level discussions of tactics, doctrine and planning within naval warfare. The annotated directory will be comprised primarily of links to websites, articles, books, and other historical media on the topic, with the annotated segment of the proposal being in the form of small excerpts explaining what each linked piece displays, explains and analyses. I have chosen this proposal as a way of expressing my interest in naval history, and to collate sources discovered in an easily accessible place (the directory) to allow others with similar interests to easily access the sources I have gathered and viewed, allowing users to further their interest and knowledge through easy accessibility to materials. As a potential extension of the proposal, methods may be researched and potentially implemented of allowing other users to verify and/or register and make their own contributions of sources on the topic, like Wikipedia but in a pure repository and description format of sources, rather than being the source itself. This part of the proposal may not eventuate, but plans to implement it will be studied as part of the proposal, allowing for the project to expand as long as people have sources to contribute, with the potential that if this is implemented, the project with in future become a large, diverse repository on the subject of naval history of the contemporary era.

License Choice

The license I have chosen for this proposal is Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International. This license has been chosen since the website is a repository of publicly available knowledge aiming to be shared, I have no financial interest or gain from the proposal and CCA 4.0 has been chosen specifically to account for the potential adaptation and additions of other users to the website. This rationale identifies CCA 4.0 License as the appropriate license due to the style of website and its user addition focused potential, and linking of others work within the website itself.
